Encounter 2/8/20 Light in the Darkness

 'Service online @9’

Christians believe that Jesus wasn’t just a special person, but that he was ‘The Son of God’. Who came to help us be reconnected with God, to set us free from all the things that bind us, to equip us to live an even better sort of life as a part of His God’s family, and to learn what God is like through His example.

We are continuing to look at peoples encounters with Jesus 2000 years ago, and see what they might mean for our lives today?

Week 8: Light in the darkness – Whilst we can’t gather in the same space, we can gather together at the same time to worship God, to pray with Him, and to learn together from Him. So we are encouraging people, where possible to use this order of service on Sunday at either 9am or 11am. (But feel free to use it any time). We pray that as we gather, the Holy Spirit will meet with us, comfort, encourage and teach us, as we worship.

Encounters with Jesus -
Light in the Darkness

{Take a few moments to imagine coming out of a long, cold, dark cave, into the warmth of bright sunshine, with not a cloud in the sky. Enjoy the warmth on your skin, and the sense of life that it brings}

Then say/Pray...
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Bless the Lord all you works of the Lord:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord you heavens:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord you angels of the Lord:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord all people on earth:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

O people of God bless the Lord:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord you priests of the Lord:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord you servants of the Lord:
sing his praise and exalt him for ever.

Bless the Lord all you of upright spirit:
bless the Lord you that are holy and humble in heart.

READ – Psalm 65
Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion; to you that answer prayer shall vows be paid.

To you shall all flesh come to confess their sins; when our misdeeds prevail against us, you will purge them away.

Happy are they whom you choose and draw to your courts to dwell there. We shall be satisfied with the blessings of your house, even of your holy temple.

With wonders you will answer us in your righteousness, O God of our salvation, O hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.

In your strength you set fast the mountains and are girded about with might.

You still the raging of the seas, the roaring of their waves and the clamour of the peoples.

Those who dwell at the ends of the earth tremble at your marvels; the gates of the morning and evening sing your praise

You visit the earth and water it; you make it very plenteous.

The river of God is full of water; you prepare grain for your people, for so you provide for the earth.

You drench the furrows and smooth out the ridges; you soften the ground with showers and bless its increase.

You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths overflow with plenty.

May the pastures of the wilderness flow with goodness and the hills be girded with joy.

May the meadows be clothed with flocks of sheep and the valleys stand so thick with corn that they shall laugh and sing.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

The Collect of the day

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,
we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern
      both our hearts and bodies
in the ways of your laws
      and the works of your commandments;
that through your most mighty protection, both here and ever,
we may be preserved in body and soul;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

or use the words below:

Rejoicing in God’s new creation,
as our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
