Travelling from the M6 or Chester you come along the M56, M60, M67 and then the A57 until it forks to the right at the lights by the Gun Inn and this is where the map below begins. At the lights you continue straight on towards Barnsley. St Mary’s Church is on the right only a 100yds or so further on, immediately after the first Pelican Crossing.
Travelling over the Pennines from the Sheffield area.
The A628 route over the Woodhead Pass continues through Tintwistle and then into Hollingworth. After driving through most of Hollingworth you will see the New Inn Pub on the right. Taylor St is the next turning left and St Mary’s Church is immediately after this street.
The A57 (Snake Pass) goes straight through Glossop. Continue on this road as though you were going to Manchester. After Glossop there is a large caravan centre on your left, Glossop Caravans, followed quickly by a couple of petrol stations. After turning left at the next mini roundabout you will cross over a river and enter Hollingworth. In about ½ a mile you will come to a set of traffic lights. The A57 is to the left and the A628 to Barnsley is to the right and that is where the map above begins. Turn right at these lights to follow the A628 towards Barnsley. St Mary’s Church is on the right immediately after the first Pelican Crossing.
Car parking is either in a small car park on the opposite side of the road to the church - the entrance is immediately to the east or “Tintwistle” side of the Pelican crossing. Or there is usually some on street parking in Taylor St, which is the turning immediately next to the east or “Tintwistle” end of the church.
